We understand the deep personal satisfaction of a job well done and the pride people take in making their homes more attractive. We can provide some recommendations, make sure you have all of the right materials and supplies, and help keep those expenses within your budget. Due to insurance requirements, labor laws, and other liability issues, we don't physically work alongside customers. A professional team can complete projects in much less time than a DIY project, unless you have fence-building experience. We encourage you to consider the pros and cons of building your own fence and are happy to answer your questions.
Yes. We can help you with ideas and make recommendations based on what you envision, your budget, where you live, and many other factors.
That depends on several things, such as where you live, the height of the fence, and whether or not any grading needs to happen to accommodate the fence. The best thing to do is to call the building department for San Luis Obispo County or for the city you live in.
The cost depends on several factors. What is the length of the fence? Which materials are you using? Are you replacing an existing fence or building brand new? What is the terrain? A fence on flat ground can be built faster than one on uneven ground. At Fencing101, we give you a complete assessment of your project and quote a fair price. We make strong efforts to work within your budget.
The cost depends on two main factors: the materials and the linear footage. Other factors that affect cost include the design, incidental labor costs, such as hiring someone to dig postholes. We can help you estimate the cost of a fence and make recommendations to help you stick to your budget.
Generally speaking, anything you do on our own property is your business; however, some jurisdictions have a permit process that includes neighborhood notification. When a proposed fence is going to block views or access that has been considered a right-of-way, neighbors may be allowed to oppose the project. Good fences indeed make good neighbors, but it's also true that keeping the peace makes good neighbors. If you think your fence might cause problems, discuss it with neighbors who it might affect. It's also important not to accidentally build a fence on your neighbor's property. If there are any property line questions, it is worthwhile to hire a surveyor.
The kind of fence to surround a garden depends on what you want the fence to accomplish. A fence to keep unattended pets and children out of the garden can be quite different than one meant to keep deer out. Deer can jump over 6 feet fairly easily, and the recommended height for deer fence is 8 feet. An 8-foot-tall fence is going to cost more than a typical 4-foot fence. Rabbits and squirrels are also considerations for protecting your garden with a fence. Rabbit fencing is a special wire that has smaller openings to prevent rabbits from squeezing through, and a 4-foot, rabbit wire fence will usually keep rabbits out. Squirrels are another thing entirely because they climb. A fence to keep squirrels out of the garden can include a wire top or sections with covers, but you want to be careful not to block necessary pollinators. We can help you decide which type of garden fence will meet your needs.
There are many options for a garden fence. A simple design is a garden fence that is 4-feet to 6-feet tall with a gate. The fence can be framed with 4" x 4" x 8' posts that go into the ground and 2" x 4" x 8' cross posts. The fence can be enclosed with boards or no-climb wire to help keep pets out. Some gardeners also like to include posts and frames for shade cloths. Gates can be purchased or custom-built. The quantity of materials depends on the length of the fence. You also need screws, gate hinges, latches, and perhaps staples if using wire.
